CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Letter from my mysterious family

It was almost six O'clock in the evening when I get a spare time to read the letter which I received from Steff in the morning. As always no one could remember my birthday except Tris and Steff. Tris gifted me "The Selection" novel series, which i wanted to buy since last year. I was alone at home, my parents and little brother went out for a dinner to celebrate his skill in studies. I slowly tore up the envelope and see what's inside. There was a letter with a photo attached to it. I had a glance at the picture but couldn't identify anyone in it. I carefully unfolded the paper and begun to read.

Dear Beverley,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, LEE!! Our baby girl is not a baby anymore. First of all we are so sorry to leave you alone in this cruel world but that was the only way to protect you from the danger. You are not the person who you think you are, this world needs you and that's why we had to protect you by sacrificing our life. Please do not hate us for leaving you and making you suffer with your current parents. You are reading this means we haven't forgotten you, not even a bit. We assigned your brother to protect you from the very first day, but he wasn't strong enough. That's why we had to leave you at the doorstep the house you currently live. You can go and live with your brother from today if you want (on your sixteenth birthday) but trust him with your whole heart. He will tell you who you are and how important is it to keep you alive. And also you might feel creepy when your brother explains you about these things, but try to get over it. This world is not the exact what you think of. We know that this is not the exact letter you would expect from your real parents, but Lee we do always love you.

As soon as I finish reading the letter I checked the back side of the photograph which was attached to the letter. And there was the name of Arina, Dustin Beverley and Stephen. I couldn't remember anyone calling me Beverley before, therefore I took my phone and sent a text to Steff asking for the reason why the letter has been addressed to Beverley. A reply came a few minutes after and it was "your name was Beverley, Tiffany your current parents did not know that and put you a new name. Everyone of us used to call you Lee back then when you were small. There are lots of things to tell you but first of all I have to show you something. I will meet you on next Saturday. Till then try to forget what happened and especially don't expose your tattoo when you are outside." His message confused me more, but then I remembered the tattoo which appeared last night. I stepped into the bathroom with the hope of having a look at it.

CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Birthday gifts from my blood brother

     It was already 7.00 am when I got up and I only had another 30 minutes to get dressed and go to school. I got dressed in 10 minutes and grabbed an apple from the fridge. Unexpectedly, I remembered the tattoo which appeared on my collarbone last night and was curious to have a look at it. As soon as a reached my room door, I heard someone knocking the front door. I skipped the thought of having a look at my tattoo for a little  and reached the front door to check who knocked instead. Stephen was standing outside the door with a neatly wrapped box and a blue coloured envelope in his hand. He greeted me with a 'good morning' and asked permission to come inside the house. I granted him access after thinking for a while since I didn't want to ignore the only person who is with me for my birthday except my best friend Tris.
     Stephen stepped inside and gave me a tight bear hug. He stepped aside after a few minutes and talked "Happy Birthday to you Tiffany. I'm proud to be your brother and if mom and dad were here they would be proud of you too." As soon as those words escaped his lips I saw him regretting what he just said. I was shocked and my body goes numb, I quickly leaned to the wall for a support. I realized that Seff's smile was all gone and it was replaced with an unreadable look. He sighed and continue to talk. "I know that you are shocked and have so many questions without answers but now it's not the time for that. I'll explain everything to you later. Please trust me on this. By the way I forgot to give your gift" He handed me the box and the envelope. "Sis, this is a letter you should read. It will give you answers to a few of your unanswered questions, but don't read it now. We are already running out of time to go school. Come, I'll give you a ride to the school." With that, we got into his bike and drove off.
